Ipswich man charged over tobacconist arson
1 min read

Police have charged a 28-year-old East Ipswich man with arson after a suspicious fire damaged a Capalaba tobacconist on  August 11.

Authorities allege the man used an angle grinder to break into the store before setting it alight, causing extensive damage.

A search warrant executed at his East Ipswich home on 14 August led to the seizure of clothing and an angle grinder.

The man is due to appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on 23 September, with investigations ongoing.

The Queensland Police Service established Taskforce Victor Masher in response to rising theft, arson, and wilful damage targeting vape and tobacco stores. The joint effort between Crime and Intelligence Command and regional police monitors organised crime links and related offending across the state.
