Could digital platforms help those in suicide crisis?

Researchers at the University of Southern Queensland have found online forums could help people contemplating suicide.  

School of Psychology Professor, Andrea Lamont-Mills, said long emergency department wait times and a lack of accessible services were pushing people to head to places like Reddit and Sane to seek help.

“What we know is in the West Moreton region, there is unfortunately a significant number of people who have taken their own lives,” she said. 

“We also know that West Moreton has one of the highest suicide rates in Queensland and in the country.”
