Doubleheader crunch time for Jets netballers
1 min read

IF ever the Ipswich Jets Sapphire team needed a winning weekend, it is this Saturday and Sunday in the Premier Netball League.

Being just two points outside the top four, the Jets face the second-placed Cougars on Saturday before a Sunday showdown with fourth-placed Thunder at Nissan Arena.

The fifth-placed Jets Sapphires secured their sixth win of the season in holding on to beat Carina 53-51 last Sunday night.

However, head coach Megan Lynch is looking for a stronger effort in this weekend’s crucial doubleheader after being disappointed overall with the Carina performance.

“We trained really well during the week but we just didn’t put it out on the court,” Lynch said.

“The good thing about it is they did grind away and work hard and stay in it, enough to gain momentum and come away with the win.”

Another positive for the Jets is the challenge ahead, playing all the top four teams in the run to the finals.

The Jets can determine their own destiny by maintaining a winning streak.

Lynch hopes to welcome back star shooter Elsa Sif Sandholt who missed the latest game with a back injury.

Back-up shooter Coco Smith toiled hard, scoring 32 goals.

Lynch named Lily Gribble the most valuable player, giving a special mention to Ella Spencer for her defensive effort.

The Jets Rubies continue to build for the upcoming finals after accounting for Carina 72-64.

That was the Jets Rubies’ 11th win from 14 matches, keeping them firmly placed in third.

Goal shooter Amy Williams was again exceptional with 56 goals at 96 percent accuracy.

“We’re just trying to keep everyone together . . . between now and the final series,” Lynch said, knowing how important this weekend’s games are.
