IPSWICH Rugby League Referees Association (IRLRA) officials are building on a fantastic initiative promoting Indigenous support and better community awareness.
IRLRA president Rachel Williamson said another specialty jersey was produced for next month’s Indigenous Rounds over two big weekends of rugby league.
She said this followed the “overwhelming success” of the inaugural specialty Women in League jersey throughout the rugby league community last year.
“The IRLRA Management Committee hope the wearing of this amazing jersey will highlight the contribution that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people make to sporting clubs and the wider community,” Williamson said.
“This is also providing an opportunity to work towards better understanding and reconciliation.”
The jersey has been designed by Indigenous artist Malcolm Brown Snr, a Gungahlu man who has lived in Munduberra (Wakka Wakka country) for most of his life.
The jersey will be worn over the weekends of August 8-10 and August 15-17 by all registered members and volunteers across sporting fields at Rugby League Ipswich Under 6’s to A Grade matches hosted throughout Ipswich, Somerset and Lockyer Valley Councils.
Williamson thanked ongoing support from sponsors Club Services Ipswich and Battery World Ipswich.
