HIGHLAND cattle breeder and breed ambassador, Haylee Coglan, has added a new experience to her catalogue of wins.

The Rosewood State High School student was congratulated for her dedication to the breed on the big screen at the Royal Queensland Show.

Haylee owns the Rosewood Coos Highland stud and is proud of her four cattle.

In June, Haylee was awarded Reserve Junior Handler at the 2023 National Highland Show, and was awarded the Junior and Grand Champion sashes at the Royal Toowoomba Show.

And she was asked by a well-known breeder in New South Wales, Koolah Creek Highlands, to assist with showing their cattle at the Brisbane Exhibition.

“The breeder Hugh Hayden led the cow Brianna and I led the calf Paisley and as a team we won Champion Highland Cow and Small Breeds Interbreed Champion,” Hayley said.

“The experience was great and I had an awesome day supporting Koolah Creek Highlands at the Show.

“One of the highlights of the day was definitely being interviewed and projected on the big screen in the main arena.”

Now the fourth generation in farming, Haylee has followed in her great grandfather Leslie Arthur Armstrong footsteps as he also attended the Brisbane Ekka in 1935, with his Red Poll bull.

Her passion for showing started when she was nine-years-old at the Marburg Show and she is looking forward to continuing in this tradition.

“I would like to breed world class Highland cattle that love me with cuddles, and I think that the quietest of temperaments combined with exceptional genetics and structures would make my dream cows,” she said.

“Encouraging other children and young adults to get involved means a lot to me, as I am currently the Queensland Junior Representative for the Australian Highland Cattle Society and I am actively involved in teaching animal husbandry skills for Highland cattle.”
