Train crew depot proposed for Rosewood
1 min read

A REMOTE train crew depot and carpark are planned for land owned by the Rosewood Bowls Club in Mill Street, Rosewood.

Aurizon Operations Limited are hoping to gain a development permit from the Ipswich City Council planners to establish the facility on a portion of the Club’s property at 83 Mill Street, which is currently used for overflow parking.

“The proposed train crew depot will be required for operations from the end of Q2 2024 for a period of up to 10 years in association with existing contracts with Aurizon’s coal customers,” it was noted in the documents uploaded with the application this month.”

If Council approves the development permit to rezone a portion of the property to ‘major utility’ it will enable the installation of a demountable building with a verandah and access ramp and a carpark with 16 sealed carparking spaces.

Internally, the building will be designed with a sign-in area, two workstations, a small meeting room, a crib area and staff amenities.

“The proposed demountable building will be approximately 4.5 metres high, with the prefabricated building placed onto low concrete piers,” according to the town planning report uploaded as part of the application.

“It will feature a conventional pitched gable roof constructed from corrugated metal roofing.

“The exterior of the demountable building will be clad with light-weight material with conventional aluminium framed windows.

“The covered verandah and the access ramp will feature timber flooring and metal balustrades.”

The depot is proposed to cater for up to 30 to 40 train crew working on a 24/7 rotating roster.

The maximum on site at any one time will be 16 crew.

The application is currently under review by the Council’s town planners.
