STAFF from Rosewood Drakes dressed in superhero costumes to get in the spirit of Be a Hero for HeartKids fundraiser.
On the day ‘HeartKid’ Roxie visited Rosewood Drakes with her mother Selena and her sister Kaisha, dressed as their favourite superhero characters to create awareness of a service that gives vital support to children affected by congenital heart disease.
Rosewood Drakes manager Tanya Wilson said that as a group, Drakes Supermarkets raised $150,000 from tokens that the staff were offering customers in their stores for the fundraiser.
“The fundraiser went very well, with Roxie who came along to our Rosewood store to participate in some activities such as assisting on the registers and replenishing our produce department,” she said.
“Roxie has struggled all of her life. She has undergone numerous operations and hard times due to a stroke.
“She is such a bubbly and well adjusted young lady, who just kept smiling all afternoon.
“Her entire family was an inspiration and Roxie really puts things into perspective that no matter what life throws at you, you just have to get back up and fight even harder.”
Roxie’s mother, Selena, said that the Roxie has been through countless operations and hospital visits.
“My daughter has faced hundreds of challenges, she is a strong girl and as a family we all love her so much and have been right by her side through it all,” she said.
“It is hard, there is no denying that, but by being part of HeartKids there are people who support you and there are other families who can also understand what you are going through.
“Having that network makes a difference and every bit of money raised helps children like my daughter get through the challenges.”
