THE building of the King’s Christian College at Walloon will receive a $10.72 million grant from the State Government.
Premier David Crisafulli announced more than $12 million worth of grants to non-state schools earlier this week, with the proposed new college in the Dawn Estate winning the ‘lion’s share’.
The grants can be used to build new facilities or upgrade existing infrastructure.
“The funds will go to ten Queensland schools across the State and will be invested in a wide range of areas including new classrooms, safer footpaths, access roads, signage and lighting,” Premier Crisafulli said.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the funds would support a range of infrastructure needs at the schools.
“All Queensland school students deserve a world-class education system and the Crisafulli Government is proud of this funding announcement,” he said.
“This investment for critical infrastructure projects will enable these schools to be better positioned to support their students in the classroom and the playground.”
King’s Christian College at Walloon will receive three grants totalling $10.72 million for a range of infrastructure projects including construction and fit-out of five new classrooms, a range of specialist rooms and internal roadworks.
King’s Christian Education Ltd are currently going through the process of gaining development permits for the staged construction of the new school, which is anticipated to eventually cater to 2,200 students from Prep to Year 12.
The application to the Ipswich City Council in October last year, also outlined plans to develop the 10.8ha site at 622-644 Karrabin Rosewood Road over the next 20 years to facilitate the staged construction of the school buildings and facilities, as well as a church, child care centre and community centre.
