IT’S A big event that draws a crowd but comes just once a year. Take note of the date because you don’t want to miss the Marburg Show.
The show is on Saturday, May 10 at the Marburg Showground.
On the Friday dogs are put through their paces with owners and pooches hoping for a rosette, ribbon or a ‘good boy’ pat.
A huge amount of hopeful entries will be on display in the pavilion so make sure to have a gander and gawk.
There’ll be judging going on in horticulture, fine arts, farm produce, fruit and veg, Lego and cookery sections.
Outside, livestock will be judged, that means caged birds, poultry, goats, horses, cattle and more, scrutinised by people holding clipboards and experts in their field.
Saturday promises more fun than you can poke a stick at unless there’s a whip attached to it, then it’s an activity.
Hungry? Good! Marburg State School volunteers will be there with their hamburger stall and the canteen will be open.
Still hungry? Grab some hot chips, cakes, donuts, sandwiches, kangaroo and curry wurst, mini pancakes and ice cream.
Did someone ask about showbags?
Well get on over here, there’ll be showbag choices galore from the folk with the vans and colourful merchandise from top to toe.
Free attractions include Dinkum Dinosaurs, a train, an animal farm, the Australasian Living History Federation, dairy goat milking, pig racing, classic speedway cars and bikes static display and the Amberley Pipe Band.
Side show alley has a range of attractions for a price.
These include the castle rock wall, dodgem cars, Laughing Clowns and other games of skill.
The ring is a busy place to be so make sure you’ve secured a seat to watch your favourite activity.
There will be horse archery, a ute display, Holden display, motorbike display, Coastal Kelpie Dog Jumping, Indigenous dancers, whip crackers, the Rhett Star Variety Show, Fire Stick Boys, children’s singing and dancing groups, as well as the usual opening and grand parades.
To top it all off the sky will explode with colourful lights at 7pm when the show puts on the family favourite, the fireworks display.
Then it’s time to go home and hope your children will sleep after all the excitement.
Luckily a sleepless night will be long forgotten by the time the next show comes around.
