First time stewards ready for showtime
2 min read

Did you know? The Horticulture Section has a category for weeds.

Did you know? It is free to enter something in the Aged Person Section.

THERE are new Chief Stewards at this year’s Rosewood Show.

They’ve been handed the reins to the top jobs and as showtime nears, they’re hoping everything goes to plan.

We spoke with three of them.

Needlework, woodwork & leatherwork

Gail Browning is passionate about crafts and has poured her heart into resin artwork and made all manner of things.

“I’ve been showing my work in that section since 2013 and became friendly with the people who ran it,” she said.

“When the stewards running it retired, it was either I take the job or the section no longer runs.

“I didn’t want us to not have a show and so here we are.”

There’s a lot of learning and paperwork behind the scenes.

“People bring in what they’ve made and you have to document it, then there’s the judge and making sure they have what they need to make a decision,” she said.

“I’ve taken a week off work to run it but it’s something I wanted to do, and the section is important to me.”

Aged Person’s Section

This is Lana Ellwood’s first year as chief steward, too.

“I was happy to be involved with any part of the show,” Lana said.

“I was allocated this section and I’m working hard to make it successful.

“Historically it’s a section with no entry fees and no prizes, but I have two sponsors on board so there will be prizes this year.”

The Aged Person’s Section is where people who live in aged care facilities or their own homes, can enter something into the show.

“They enter all sorts of things like crochet work, knitted items and doilies,” Lana said.

Her passion is hand embroidery and she is looking forward to seeing what entrants bring in.

Horticulture Section

Ann-Marie O’Brien is the volunteer co-ordinator at the Rosewood Community Garden and this is her first year as Chief Steward of the Horticulture Section.

“I think it’s wonderful that Rosewood gardeners have the opportunity to show off what they’ve grown at the show,” she said.

“At first I thought it was all about produce, but it’s actually all flowers, pot plants, orchids and even weeds believe it or not.”
