ROSEWOOD resident Betty Jones was presented with flowers and cards as she cut the cake to celebrate her 102nd birthday on Wednesday May 3 at Cabanda Care.

Betty was born in Roma on May 3, 1921. Her family were among the first white settlers to call Queensland home.

With an interest in haberdashery and business, the family moved for a sea change to Burleigh Heads where they opened their own combined café, grocery and haberdashery store.

A real love for the great outdoors led to Betty spending many days fishing, swimming and surfing.

While engaging in her love for the beach, Betty met Charlie, their friendship grew and they were married and became the parents of three children, Delma, Robert and Julie.

With business in mind, the couple moved to Blackall where they established a welding and engineering business. Betty supported Charlie and together they worked hard in making a successful business.

Betty’s passion for fishing continued, and throughout the summer months with her family, and her fishing rods, she travelled to Yamba in New South Wales and the Daly River in the Northern Territory to test the waters for a memorable catch.

Many memories were made and shared and Betty’s devotion to family is a legacy that surrounds her entire family with happiness.
