A DINMORE man, 21, was arrested and charged over the death of Bundamba woman Krystle Monks, 19.
Michael Kurt Pringle appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with murder (domestic violence offence), possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing used drug utensils.
Mr Pringle did not apply for bail and his matter was adjourned to the Ipswich Magistrate’s Court on March 31.
He remains remanded in custody.
Pringle was arrested at a Redlands address last Friday after a five-day investigation into the death.
The murder charge came after police were originally called to a Bundamba address on February 4 concerning reports that “a woman had collapsed” about 9.30pm.
Ms Monks died the next evening at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Southern Region Crime Co-ordinator Detective Superintendent Larissa Miller said the arrest had been a team effort.
“Our investigators, specialists and forensic officers have worked extremely hard over the past week to bring about this resolution,” Det-Supt Miller said.
“The aspect of violence in a domestic setting will be the focus of the investigation.”
A GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to cover funeral costs has so far raised more than $5,540.
“Krystle was a loving, kind, and caring soul who loved her little dog ‘Blackie’’ and worked very hard in her role as a barista and kitchen hand,” the GoFundMe page states.
“We are a very close and humble family and while asking for your help during this time is quite difficult, it is needed to cover the unexpected costs that come from such a sudden loss of life.”
Family and friends brought candles and gathered on Sunday afternoon at Alfred Seymour Park in a vigil for Ms Monks.
Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding thanked the community for remembering Ms Monks.
“I can’t fathom the pain Krystle must have been through and now her family and friends are in so much pain and suffering,” Cr Harding said.
“Thank you to the community for organising this vigil.”
