Government pressed to explain unusual aircraft trails

ANXIETIES surrounding geoengineering and atmospheric intervention techniques – popularly referred to as “chemtrails” and “cloud seeding” – are gaining attention locally and globally.

Residents across Queensland are reporting an apparent increase in suspicious looking high-altitude aircraft trails.

It has prompted questions to the government about the resurgence of weather modification activities, with Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause addressing concerns from locals.

Mr Krause acknowledged that the Queensland Government had conducted cloud seeding research from 2007 and 2009 when the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) investigated the use of cloud seeding to increase water storage.

However, Mr Krause said the Queensland Government was unaware of weather modification efforts since that time.

“Since the second season of cloud seeding in February 2009, the Queensland Government has not undertaken any further research or operational activities on cloud seeding in southeast Queensland or elsewhere within the state,” Mr Krause stated.

“The Queensland Government is not aware of any cloud seeding or any other weather manipulation activity being conducted by any agency in Queensland.

“I have subsequently been advised that the Australian Government is aware of geoengineering concerns, their association with ‘chemtrails’ and their prevalence on internet websites.

“These theories often suggest that trails seen behind aircraft are the result of the deliberate spraying of chemical or biological agents.

“These trails, or long streams of cloud, are formed when hot engine exhaust containing water vapor, carbon dioxide and small amounts of particles, mixes with the cold surrounding air.

“I have been advised that there is no evidence that contrails are harmful to human health or the environment.”

Despite reassurances, public scepticism persists globally.

A UK government petition titled “Make all forms of geo-engineering affecting the environment illegal” now has more than 159,000 signatures and will be debated in the UK Parliament on June 23.

The UK Government said there was a distinction between greenhouse gas removals (GGRs) and solar radiation modification (SRM).

It supports the use of GGRs to meet “net zero carbon targets”, but said the use of SRM could have potential unintended consequences, and the Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) is funding preliminary SRM studies.

At least eight US states, including Florida and Tennessee, have now introduced chemtrail-coded legislation to prohibit “geo-engineering” or “weather modification”.
