Member for Blair Shayne Neumann is quietly confident of holding on to his seat.
AS the polling booths closed tonight Member for Blair Shayne Neumann was quietly confident of holding his seat and of Labor forming government.
“I think people are in a mood for a change of government. They don’t like Scott Morrison,” Mr Neumann said.
“The hostility towards Scott Morrison is palpable. The only people that have got pictures of Scott Morrison at polling booths is the Labor Party with “no more excuses, no more mistakes, takes no responsibility.
“I think Labor is doing okay. I think it is going to be close but I think we are going to get there.
“My name recognition is very high in the electorate. I think people know me, they trust me and I’ve delivered for the area.
“Blair is nearly always a close election. I’ve never held it by very much this seat, so we just have to do our best.”
Despite the constant rain all booths have been busy throughout the day.
Mr Neumann was out on the booths all day starting at Raceview State School and heading to Whitehill Church of Christ at Raceview, Cityhope Church at Ripley, Redbank Plains State School, Redbank Plains State High School, Springfield Central State School and Ipswich State High School.
He has been campaigning since the last election where his margin was reduced in a 10 percent swing away from Labor.
“We’ve made over 50,000 phone calls to people, easily, my staff and I, across the last three years,” Mr Neumann said.
“We’ve been campaigning ever since the last election.”
Mr Neumann said local government issues had dominated complaints and discussion.
“A lot of Council issues have been raised with me, some of them are Federal issues and some of them are State, but even today I had people talking to me about local council roads and drainage,” he said.
“People are not happy with what is happening.
“I’m surprised with the number of council issues people have raised with me today, and it is to do with really core things that they expect council to do.
“There are a number of issues like that we need to improve. There are a number of major road projects we need to get done that the State Government needs to get on with the consultation process and that is that the Willowbank interchange and the Mount Crosby interchange.
“The Federal issues that people have raised with me have been aged care, childcare, jobs, Medicare, a whole range of issues like that – traditional Labor issues.
“Locally I’ve had a few things on veterans issues. We’ve got a large defence community and also veterans community, it’s the second biggest in the country.”
